Sam McRoberts Bio
My name is Sam McRoberts, and I’m the CEO of VUDU Marketing, the co-host of The Entrepreneur Cast podcast, and of course the author of Screw the Zoo, a bestselling book about how to identify and escape from the various mental and societal cages that keep us trapped.
But really…who am I, and why on Earth should you give a ratβs ass about what I have to say?
Good question!
Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
In most regards I’m nothing special. I can’t draw or paint. I’m not a mathematical genius or a musical prodigy. I’m not famous, and I’ve definitely never won the lottery. I wouldn’t stand out in a crowd.
What I am though is a unique and strangely effective blend of 4 characteristics: relentlessly curious, fiercely independent, world class at simplifying complex things, and…
Unapologetically lazy π If there is a more efficient way to do something, or an effective cheat code, loophole or shortcut, I WILL fucking find it and use the shit out of it.
These are my superpowers.
And as it so happens, this mix of traits seems to be extremely effective for escaping from cages, and has made me something of a social and psychological escapologist, a psychological Houdini if you will.
To really understand this book, you need to understand a tiny bit about me. The story of my life is a story of trying to become free. Not free from slavery, or poverty, or war torn regimes…but free from outside control, and to some degree from inside control as well.
Free to choose.
I hate being controlled. I absolutely, positively can’t fucking stand being manipulated, pressured, ordered around, guilt tripped, or otherwise placed under the thumb of some person, institution, tradition, or belief system.
I hate feeling trapped.
And so, as I’ve made my way through this system we call life, poking and prodding at the cage, looking for a way out, I’ve learned some very useful things. Morpheus had it right when he said “Some rules can be bent. Others can be broken.”
Screw the Zoo is a book about rules; hidden rules, unspoken rules…but most importantly, about bending and breaking those rules.
It is a collection of around 50 core concepts, put together in an order so that each new idea builds on the foundation of the one before. I’ve endeavored to simplify each concept to the point where it can’t be simplified further.
If the deepest desire of your heart is to find a way to be free, this book is for you.
Let me know how I did π

Speaking
If you’re interested in having me speak at your event, please send the details of the event (name of event, audience type/size, date, time, length of event) to Speaking [at] ScrewTheZoo dot com. I’ve spoken at dozens of events, to audiences ranging from 10 to 1,000 people, and have tackled a VERY wide variety of topics.
A few points though:
- I don’t travel for events anymore. I only speak at online events, or events where I can call in and appear on screen. No exceptions.
- I don’t do keynotes or custom presentations. Fireside chats, interviews, panels, and Q&A sessions are all I’m interested in.
- Fee: $5,000 per event, and since I don’t travel for events, you’re off the hook for travel expenses π
